China Appears to Attack Yahoo in Latest Censorship of Hong Kong Protests



As thousands of people swarm the streets of Hong Kong asking the Chinese government to fulfill its promise of real democracy in the autonomous region, Chinese censors seems to be tightening their control over the Internet.

In what’s almost unprecedented, China appears to be targeting Yahoo with what’s called as a “man-in-the-middle attack.” With such an attack, connections to, which are normally encrypted, would be vulnerable to snooping, and Chinese censors could also block search terms or specific Yahoo links with the goal of preventing Chinese netizens from accessing information about the protests in Hong Kong Read more…

Yvette Nicole Brown Is Leaving ‘Community’



When Community returns for a new season on Yahoo Screen, it will be without the study group’s most perpetually plucky member.

Yvette Nicole Brown, who played Shirley on the show, has asked to be released from her contract with the show so that she can tend to her ailing father

“My dad needs daily care and he needs me,” Brown said in a statement via TV Guide, which first reported the news. “The idea of being away 16 hours a day for five months, I couldn’t do it. It was a difficult decision for me to make, but I had to choose my dad.” Read more…

Tim and Eric Switch On Jeff Goldblum’s Weird in Lightbulb Commercial



Jeff Goldblum has found the role he was born to play: famous person Terry Quattro.

In this advertisement for GE Link lighting solutions, the Hefner-esque Goldblum struts around the screen with his “lighting servant” and sparkly-dressed women in a mock infomercial directed by comedy duo Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim.

Tim and Eric aren’t new to the viral advertising game, having created several of the over-the-top Old Spice Terry Crews commercials.

Windows 10 Could Be the Windows We’ve Been Waiting For



Microsoft unveiled Windows 10, the long-awaited followup to Windows 8 Tuesday.

The latest version of Windows walks back some of the more jarring changes of Windows 8, including the return of the Start menu and improvements to how apps are displayed, while also adding multitasking enhancements that will appeal to those who use touchscreen devices as well as PCs.

Through Darkness and Rain, Hong Kong’s Protesters Pledge to Stay ‘Forever’



HONG KONG — Hong Kong Central and Admiralty were packed with tens of thousands of people late Tuesday night through early Wednesday morning, as Mashable took a midnight walk through the protest areas.

The crowd was relaxed

Masses of protestors’ sleeping bodies sprawled across some of the busiest roads in Hong Kong, which remain closed to traffic. Others huddled in groups under umbrellas, with white napkins slapped to their foreheads in an hopeless attempt to stay cool from the thick humidity.

Bar Owner Slams Tom Morello: ‘Rock Stars Don’t Get Special Treatment’

Morello criticized 5 Point Cafe, a small Seattle bar restaurant, for being “super rude” and “anti-worker” with the “shittiest doorman in the Northwest.”
