The New York Times has created a sorely needed new revenue source with its paywall. With its most recent investment, the paper’s leadership hopes it can help bring that to the entire industry.
The Times, along with Axel Springer Digital Ventures, has participated in a $3 million Series A funding round for Dutch media startup Blendle.
Blendle operates under the assumption that people are willing to pay for quality journalism, but that doing so in the current fractured market is too difficult. To solve this problem, the company has developed a one-stop paywall. Users can see what articles are gaining traction with friends and trusted sources, and then pay a set amount for that individual article. Read more…
